What is the Backyard Market?
Funded by the USDA’s Farmers Market and Local Food Promotional Program, Backyard Market is a virtual farmers market platform developed by Florida Organic Growers that enables producers and consumers to sell and purchase food with flexibility and efficiency. It is a web-based farmers market where local growers and food entrepreneurs can sell their products directly to consumers. Like a farmers market, sellers present their products but within the Backyard Market this process takes place online.
What makes the Backyard Market unique?
Unlike other platforms, sellers can create share information in their profiles about what they grow, their farm practices, why they got into this business…essentially anything you could learn directly from your farmers and vendors at an in-person farmers market—just online! Consumers will also be able to connect with farmers directly through the platform to ask questions.
How do I join the market as a vendor?
If you are a farmer or cottage food seller in the Homestead area, you can join The Backyard Market platform once it has launched. After signing up for an account, you will be able to enter information about your farm and upload pictures that you would like to share. Once you have completed your member profile, you can begin uploading photos of your products, inputting the quantity of the items you wish to sell, and setting your prices!

How do I purchase Backyard Market products?
If you live in the Homestead area and would like to be a customer of the Backyard Market, joining and using the platform will be easy. You will simply need to create a new member profile which will include your name, a description about yourself, products that you are interested in, and you can upload a photo. Once your profile is complete, you will be able to search the platform for products to purchase and connect with farmers about products directly.
Do I have to pay to use the Backyard Market platform?
No, there is no payment required for vendors or consumers to use The Backyard Market at this time. In September of 2023 we intend to implement a small membership fee.
How do consumers get their products?
We are starting off with one pick up spot each week on Tuesdays, but will be creating other satellite pick up locations in the Homestead and Miami area for better convenience. The exact location and time will be announced soon!
Does Backyard Market have locations other than Homestead?
Homestead is the first Backyard Market location. However, we have plans to expand to other areas in Florida.
Can I purchase items at the market that have not been ordered online?
No. All sales/transactions are handled online and must be completed prior to pick up at the designated location.
What do I do if I am unhappy with my order?
