COOKING WITH ORGANICS

Cooking and baking with organic foods is a great way to get the nutrients you need without compromising your health…and your wallet. Today’s supermarket offers a good selection of organic fruits, vegetables and packaged goods all at a great price.

FOG staff and invited chefs will delight you with recipes using local organic food. We hope this space will offer you interesting and fresh cooking ideas so that you can share delicious meals with your friends and family. The USDA Food and Nutrition Service website is also great place to find recipes for you and your family.

Sautéed Swiss Chard with Orange

Ingredients:

1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

2 bunches of Swiss chard (large stems removed), cut leaves into 1 inch strips

Zest from 1 orange, cut into wide strips, plus juice

Coarse salt and ground pepper

Directions: In large skillet, heat oil over medium-high heat. Add Swiss Chard and orange zest. Cook, tossing frequently, until chard wilts, about 4 minutes. Season with coarse salt and ground pepper, then add juice of the orange; toss to coat.
